University Towers is a private membership cooperative housing corporation (a "co-op"), which owns a 17-story tower consisting of studios, one, two and three bedroom apartments for purchase.  Each of the 238 apartments is owned by an individual shareholder in the corporation who also owns a "proprietary lease". The corporation is not a monthly rental apartment landlord, and new shareholders need to be approved by the corporation's admission committee before joining the community of shareholder-owners.
